Tine Krumhorn

Tine Krumhorn’s work is rooted in a sensitive observation of the plant world: through a close examination of nature’s forms and metamorphoses – such as the reeds in *Aquatic Vegetation* – she explores how nature reflects human emotions and the cycles of life. This intimate approach explores the relationship between humans and nature, in search of an inner world. Influenced by late 19th-century Romantic painting, Tine reveals emotions through landscapes that invite contemplation, where nature elevates solitude and melancholy. Subjects fragment and then reassemble; the images, retouched and enhanced with coloured pencils and pastels, blur the boundaries between painting and photography. Her artistic intervention disrupts the temporality of the image and gives it a new rhythm. The light, captured by the grooves in the material, shapes the landscape and evokes the metaphor of time, impermanence and nature’s fragile memory.

A graduate of the Metz School of Fine Arts, Tine Krumhorn (*1965, Sarralbe, France) was awarded the Rosenthal Prize in Darmstadt for a glass artwork. After a spell in theatre, her practice evolved towards set design, photography, sculpture and bas-relief. For the past twenty years or so, she has been exploring textures and the transformations of materials through cardboard. Based in Luxembourg since 2015, she exhibits regularly across Europe and takes part in numerous artistic projects.
